Tool of the Week: Noticing Our Values
A study of when and where to anchor in our values
This week on The Practice Plan, we’re going deeper on values. Not just naming them, but (1) recognizing patterns and (2) understanding when and how to use them.
Values are one of the most consistent anchors I return to when navigating tensions. Whether I’m scripting S.O.S. feedback, helping someone move from complaint to commitment, or exploring a frustration with a colleague, values are almost always where we land. And there’s a reason for that.
When we put decisions, feelings, and behaviors in the context of values, we get closer to the heart of the issue. It makes it easier to stop reacting to the what and the how and start understanding the why. That shift creates more space for collaboration, more clarity in communication, and more compassion for ourselves and others.
This week, I want us to build awareness around a couple of things:
The values of ours that show up time and again when we examine our decisions and tensions
How and when we can use values to support self-awareness, communication, and collaboration with our teammates
Before We Begin
Remember, the power of this work comes not only from understanding it, but practicing it.
