Tool of the Week: Self-Doubt as a Growth Signal
Self-doubt isn't the problem, it's the invitation
This week on The Practice Plan, we’re looking at the connective tissue between two tools we’ve spent time with separately: the fixed v growth mindset and the B.R.A.V.I.N.G. Inventory.
The B.R.A.V.I.N.G. Inventory by Brené Brown breaks down the key components of trust, and specifically in the Elevate Program, we examined the inventory through the lens of self-trust. It can be an incredibly helpful framework for naming what happens when self-doubt creeps in.
What I’ve noticed through teaching both of these tools is that often, not always, but often, the moment we’re most likely to slip into a fixed mindset is the exact same moment self-doubt shows up. The fixed mindset is our comfort zone. And self-doubt often causes us to retreat.
Understanding this connection is actually good news. It means that self-doubt isn’t a problem to solve or push away. It’s an invitation. It can signal to us that we’re standing at the edge of real growth.
